David Parker and a team of seven are returning to Liberia in early January 2011, to construct a wood shop and sewing center at Susie Guenter Orphanage.
An All Liberia Festival is being planned for sometime in late March or early April of 2011, a collaboration of REAP, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, and church leaders and para church ministries across Liberia. More details to come!
The Need for EMA+USA Scholarships

Liberia is slowly recovering from the devastating effects of a 14 year civil war that has destroyed the country's infrastructure (no sewers, electricity, running water, education, etc.), left thousands of orphans, and has emotionally and physically devastated each Liberian in some way with the horrors of war. The current rate of unemployment is 85%, 2nd worst in the world, and the per capital yearly income is $500.
More than a half a million youth are not in school. These young people have a tremendous desire to return to school (after a 14 year absence), but most cannot because of lack of school fees. And so, a non-profit c-501 organization, EMA+USA (ELWA Ministries Association USA) was borne, and a scholarship program was developed with Liberian board members involved in the interview, applications, and follow-up of each student. Currently we have 32 scholarship students, with another 45 applications waiting.
The need is great, and to support students needing scholarships, we need at least $10,000 by the end of the year. School costs range between $100-$300 for one student to attend school for a year, a small price for a huge impact on not only a young person, but also the country as a whole. Can you help us make a difference with a tax-deductible gift?
Featured EMA+USA Scholar
Thanks to an EMA+USA scholarship, sixteen year old Nyanda Lahai is attending ELWA Academy in the 9th grade. She is an orphan, her late father having been a janitor at ELWA Hospital. Her goal is to follow her education and become "a great person in society". She loves to read, sing, and play basketball. In her scholarship application, she says that she should be considered because, "I am an orphan and my guardian can't afford my school fees because of their low income." In order for Nyanda to continue her high school education with an EMA+USA scholarship, we need to raise about $300 for her 10th grade year. If you would like to sponsor Nyanda, or any of our other scholarship students, or even donate a onetime gift of any amount, large or small, please click on the "How You Can Help" button, then the "Donate" button for additional information.

Needs
Urgent
- ELWA Ministries needs a Technical Advisor, someone resident in Liberia to help teach and train the Liberian technicians as they work to develop and maintain the technical support structure for the ELWA radio, hospital, academy, and technical services ministries. Alan and Cheri Shea have answered that call from Liberia. Alan's gifts, abilities and past experiences have prepared him to fill this key critical need at this time. They need about 30% more financial support to return with SIM. More information is available in the July 23,2010 ELWA Palava Hut blog.
- Rusty Laird has been ably overseeing the Services Department (maintenance and construction) at ELWA, as well as filling the role of technical director, and will be leaving in August. ELWA needs a Godly man well grounded in His Word with a strong biblical work ethic and the technical skills and experience needed to fill his role..
- Continue to pray for the ELWA hospital in Liberia. Praise that the leader has renewed energy and desire to continue. There is no doctor currently at the hospital to replace Dr. Sacra, and patient car is suffering. There is another medical doctor committed to working there who still needs to raise $1000 a month support. Pray that she will be able to arrive soon, as this is a critical need.
- Financial support for ELWA
- Roofing repairs for the ELWA Hospital and many other buildings

Praises
- For an ELWA broadcast partner who provided funds to buy the expensive transmitter tube needed for the shortwave to get back on the air. Radio ELWA is now broadcasting on the shortwave transmitter, blanketing the country of Liberia in its own languages. These shortwave broadcasts are vital to the spread of the Gospel to rural Liberia.
- Rosana Schaak and her THINK organization being recognized by the U of MN.. See http://www.thinkliberia.com/blog/
- More Liberians are desiring to return and help rebuild and equip the country's schools, farms, to evangelize and build up the body of believers.
