Work was paused on the construction of the new ICM building in April due to COVID-19 and its restrictions. In addition to health risk, because the government imposed a 3:00 PM curfew, workers had to start making their way back home by 1 PM which meant the work day was cut short. Meanu Kayea was born in Liberia and is on the advisory board of EMAUSA. His father, now with the Lord, ministered to the Liberian people through broadcasts on ELWA Christian radio and with Youth for Christ. Meanu was 19 years old when he moved to the US where he lived with an ELWA missionary family. Meanu says, "I believe God is calling me to return to Liberia to disciple, mentor and share God’s love and the message of salvation with Liberian youth. The desire and burden to return to my birthplace began about 10 years ago when God gave me the opportunity to connect with a group of young Liberian boys adopted by American families in Charlotte, North Carolina where I live. My relationship with the boys began by meeting regularly with them in small discipleship groups. Through this experience, I felt the Lord placing the youth of Liberia upon my heart and a plan for a discipleship program that would bring Jesus to them began to form." From September 2020 Newsletter - Subscribe Through your generous support, EMAUSA was able to pay for a new 350-foot tower to replace the 60 year old bullet-ridden main FM radio tower. Thank you to all who donated to this to assure that ELWA radio will be broadcasting for decades to come. This tower allows ELWA to reach over 1,000,000 Liberians! Our attention is now turning to the content that is being broadcast over the airwaves. If you listen to Christian radio here in the United States, you already know how impactful it can be. ELWA radio wants to reach Liberians who are seeking God and serve Liberian believers who want to take the next step in their journey with Jesus Christ. This is a big challenge and frankly ELWA radio is struggling financially to provide all the quality broadcasts that it would like to include. ELWA radio, just like Christian radio in the United States, is supported by donations. Moody radio for example, holds radio fundraising weeks to raise funds for their programming and infrastructure. When ELWA started in the 1950s, all the programs were fully sponsored. Today, a program on ELWA radio is often paid for by the person doing the program. Unfortunately, some of the people who can pay for the broadcast are not always the most qualified person to be on the air. EMAUSA sponsored four great programs this year. It costs $1200 to broadcast a 30-minute program every week for a year. One great program we sponsor is "Running to Win" with Erwin Lutzer from Moody Radio. Liberians love his biblical teaching. We also sponsor Liberian programs like "Kingdom Way" with Moses Paye, president of the Evangelical Churches of Liberia. Unfortunately, we can only afford to sponsor a few programs and we cannot commit to more than one year. Would you prayerfully consider sponsoring a program regularly on ELWA radio for six months or a year? $100 each month sponsors a one-half hour program for the entire year. If 10 donors would sponsor one program each, we could provide five hours of high quality programs weekly. Maybe there is a Christian program you love that you could sponsor! Can you imagine the impact if Liberians had access to some of our gifted teachers of the Word or could listen to a great Liberian preacher who does not have the resources to fund his own program. Donations of any size are welcome; we would love for you to be a part of this great ministry. Contact Lee Sonius (EMAUSA Director) at (803) 554-5644 to discuss sponsoring a specific program or you can donate directly by mail or online below. Donate From September 2020 Newsletter - Subscribe
What Does "Doing Good" Really Mean? Jesus Had A Different Perspective. "And this Gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Matthew 24:14 The mission of ELWA Ministries Association USA (EMAUSA) is to "Never get tired of doing good..." Galatians 6:9. But what does "doing good" really mean? Thanks to our faithful supporters, we do good by providing school scholarships for disadvantaged kids, food for the poor, care for orphans, support for free care at ELWA hospital and many other good things that benefit the Liberian people. But is this what Jesus says doing good is? From September 2020 Newsletter - Subscribe For nearly three years now, the Evangelical Churches of Liberia (ECOL) have been slowly building the International Church of Monrovia (ICM) on ELWA Campus. Every week for years, the local congregation has been collecting their small funds to build a church. In a country where daily wages are $2-$5 dollars a day, this small congregations accomplishment is amazing. When completed, this new church will serve the large community around ELWA on Sundays and throughout the week with adult and youth programs. Moses Paye, the president of the 103 Evangelical Churches of Liberia (ECOL) says, "this new church will also be the central gathering place for ECOL pastor conferences. Pastors outside of the ECOL churches are also invited to attend." The conferences are attended by hundreds of church leaders throughout Liberia. Currently, conferences are held outdoors. One American pastor who has spoken as past conferences remembered a time when it started raining during the conference and he immediately stood and started looking for shelter but then noticed that none of the attendees were moving. He realized they came to hear the word of God (many from remote villages) and rain wasn't going to stop them. Humbled, he sat back down and joined the pastors in worship to God. ELWA Ministries Association USA has been watching the congregations faithful giving and building progress for years now and we would love to bless their sacrificial giving with a donation to their building fund. It will cost about $45,000 to get this building under roof with doors and windows. We would love to raise this amount for the exterior while they continue to sacrificially give to complete the interior. We believe this will be a huge encouragement for them without diminishing all that they have done. Donate |
