When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, EMAUSA and faithful ministry partner, The Chapel Church in Libertyville, IL donated almost $25,000 to buy rice for Liberians. Moses Paye and his team from the Evangelical Church of Liberia (ECOL) managed the distribution. Here is a report from Moses.
We are delighted to report that the relief distribution went very well. It was timely and gave the church a good testimony as we provided food for the needy. The distribution exercise covered three weeks, April 29 – May 19, maintaining COVID-19 measures as much as possible. We did our best to avoid any huge gathering wherever we went for distribution, often delivering food directly to the homes of beneficiaries. Where churches were targeted, we encouraged pastors to divide their memberships into smaller groups and allow each group to turn up for their food on scheduled dates.
A total of 665 bags of 25 kg. rice were purchased and distributed in Montserrado and Margibi counties, the two regions that were initially quarantined by the government. A total of 408 family heads received rice. Additionally, we also served 155 special vulnerable people – mainly the elderly and physically challenged. Overall, we think the relief distribution provided food for over 2000 people.
We extend our gratitude to the EMAUSA family* for standing with us through during this critical global health emergency.
