Dear Friends of ELWA:
All children love to smile. It is the outward expression of the innate joy they are so quick to share. Unfortunately, some children have more chances to smile than others.
The children of Liberia have been gripped in a struggle for survival for the last two years. The Ebola epidemic has taken many of their parents and relatives. Their homes and belongings have been destroyed. Their economy has been devastated. Their schools have closed and their stomachs growl for food. As we look forward to the upcoming holidays, the children look anxiously for their next meal.
This is clearly not the way God intended his children to live. First John 3:17-18 tells us, "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and truth". This directive from God could not be more obvious. We who have been blessed with much are called to give, called to share, and called to help.
One of the primary missions of ELWA Ministries USA is to feed the bodies, minds, and souls of Liberia's children. Through our partnership with Feed My Starving Children and with your support, we shipped over one million meals to Liberia this year. We expanded scholarships to 455 children attending Christian schools, who would not otherwise receive an education. We supported ELWA Radio, which remains the beacon of hope in Liberia and surrounding countries, broadcasting the healing message of Jesus Christ on a daily basis. All this was possible thanks to the faithful giving from so many of you.
Won't you please help us make a Liberian child smile this Christmas? We are now raising funds for 2016 to continue providing physical and spiritual help for so many in need. The reverse side of this letter offers many ways to express your generosity. No gift is too small, for no smile is ever too small. As Proverbs 22:9 reminds us, "Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor".
